Design: Kathrine Hovind

Krapp is a colorful collection of hand crafted tables in pine, stained using plant dyeing techniques. Plant dyeing is usually associated with coloring textiles and yarn, but in this project, Kathrine has manipulated the process to use the natural dyes on wood.  The product series Krapp consists of two tables dyed with different plants – the root of Krapp and the plant Reinfann, using the traditional dyeing method, step by step.

Just like endangered plant and animal species are at risk of dying out, there's also a lot of traditional craftsmanship and techniques that are fading away and being forgotten. The "Red List" by Norges Husflidslag is a nationwide project aimed at collecting and documenting this cultural knowledge for the future. Kathrine has taken techniques from the Red List as a starting point in several of her projects to see if she can preserve these craft traditions by experimenting and adapting them into new forms and functions that suit modern times better.
